Polyethylene can be considered transparent in the film state, but when it exists in bulk, it will be opaque due to strong light scattering due to the existence of a large number of crystals in it. The degree of polyethylene crystallization is affected by the number of branches, and the more branches, the more difficult it is to crystallize. The crystal melting temperature of polyethylene is also affected by the number of branches, ranging from 90 degrees Celsius to 130 degrees Celsius. The more branches, the lower the melting temperature. Polyethylene single crystals can usually be prepared by dissolving HDPE in xylene at temperatures above 130 degrees Celsius.
